In October of 2022, the Whitesboro Fire Department became a licensed MICU EMS provider with the Texas Department of State Health Services. This was a big step for the City of Whitesboro and the Whitesboro Fire Department. In the past, EMS was provided by a third party, and the fire department maintained a First Responder Organization (FRO) License in order to respond to medical emergencies and deliver Advance Life Saving (ALS) care to patients when needed. The Fire Division of the WFD is still able to respond and offer those same life saving measures when an ambulance response is delayed, or while assisting the ambulance crews on scene as needed.
In October of 2023, 2 brand new Dodge ambulances were put into service. The custom ambualnces, built by Frazerbilt, allowed the department to design ambulances that would funtion well for our EMS district. The 14 foot boxes with the "door forward" design allow for more crew room and patient privacy in the back. All the modern technologies were included such as auto-load stretchers and ultraviolet disenfection lights. The department has 3 licensed ambulances ready tor oll, and maintains a fourth reserve unit that can quickly be placed in service when needed.
Today the department's EMS Division responds to all medical emergencies in their established EMS district. This district is quite a bit larger than the fire district, and encompasses almost a third of the western edge of Grayson County. The WFD EMS District includes all of the Collinsville, Gordonville, Sadler, Sherwood Shores, Southmayd, and Whitesboro fire districts.
The delivery of EMS services is accomplished through staffing 2 MICU ambulances 24/7. Each ambulances is staffed with a minimum of an EMT-B and EMT-P. The EMS Division only responds to 911 emergencies, but will occasionally provide stand-by services as need from a 3rd reserve ambulance also staffed to the Paramedic level.
